Q: Do I need to be enrolled at SDSU to play on the hockey team?
A: You must be a regularly enrolled student at SDSU to be eligible to participate on the club ice hockey team. You also must carry a minimum of 9 units and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. No open university students are permitted to play club sports.
Q: I want to join the team next season, when is the deadline to apply to SDSU?
A: The deadline to apply to SDSU for Fall, 2009 is November 30th, 2008. Please check sdsu.edu and collegeboard.com for more information.
Q: Are there scholarship opportunities for the club ice hockey team?
A: The ACHA does not permit scholarships to be awarded to club ice hockey players nor does SDSU offer scholarships for club ice hockey
Q: How much does it cost to play a season on the SDSU club ice hockey team?
A: Dues vary from season to season depending on the travel schedule. However, dues typically range from $1,500-$2,000 per player. This may or may not include regional and/or national trips depending on the team’s budget.
Q: What league does the SDSU team play in?
A: SDSU plays in the ACHA Division 2 West Region.
Q: How many years am I allowed to play on the team?
A: Assuming you have not played on any other college hockey team, you are typically eligible to play 5 seasons on the club ice hockey team. However, there are some instances if you have played at a much higher level where you may be restricted in the amount of time you are permitted to play. Please check achahockey.org and read the current rulebook if you are unsure.
Q: How many games do you play and how often do you practice?
A: We practice 3 times per week. We have one dry land practice and 2 on ice practices. The on ice practices are on Tuesday and Wednesday nights around 10 PM. We typically play seasons of around 20-30 games.
Q: How long is the season?
A: The season starts in September and ends in March. There are usually no games during most of winter break, with the exception of games the last week of break.
